When I was a little girl,
Easter was filled with many family traditions.
On Good Friday morning we would color eggs.
We shared the story of the Last Supper
and sad trial and torture of Jesus.
~~~~
My Mom and my Aunties would be baking
and cooking all the Easter specialties.
We kept silent and did not speak
In the afternoon, we would go to church.
In silence we would pray during
the three hours of the Crucifixion of Jesus.
Saturday morning we would bring our baskets filled
with the Easter foods to Church to be blessed.
This was our tradition, we all looked forward to it!
The Lenten fasting was now over.
The tomb of Jesus was empty, He was not there!
We would celebrate Jesus has risen!
The afternoon would be a wonderful treat,
tasting all the special Easter foods.
There were Easter Sunrise services in all the Churches.
The bells would be ringing...Rejoice..He Has Risen!
We would look for our baskets of goodies that were
usually in the same place every year! LOL
We enjoyed a breakfast of the magic eggs we colored,
with a few jelly beans and chocolates added in. LOL
Mom always had lovely Easter outfits for all four of us...
She often made the pretty dresses for my sister and me.
My Dad was so proud of all of us!
We would walk down the avenue of our town
greeting neighbors on our way to Church.
In those days everyone knew everybody!
Our Church was always filled with lilies...
I can still see the lovely flowers adorning
the Altar and hear the joyful music
of the Choir singing in celebration!
How beautiful it was!
"He Has Risen"
In days gone by I still celebrate my traditions!
They will always glisten in my treasure chest of memories.
~Easter Parade~
Words and music by Irving Berlin.
(verse)
Never saw you look quite so pretty before.
Never saw you dressed quite so lovely, whatŽs more.
I could hardly wait to keep our date this lovely Easter morning,
And my heart beat fast as I came through the door for:
(chorus)
In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it,
YouŽll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
IŽll be all in clover, and when they look you over
IŽll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.
On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue,
The photographers will snap us
And youŽll find that youŽre in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet
And of the girl IŽm taking to the Easter Parade.
In my Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it,
IŽll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
YouŽll be all in clover, and when they look me over
YouŽll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.
On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue,
The photographers will snap us
And youŽll find that youŽre in the rotogravure.
Oh, you may write a sonnet about my Easter bonnet
And of the girl youŽre taking to the Easter Parade.
