~TRIBUTE TO MY DAD~
~ In loving memory of my dear Daddy~
~Forever In My Heart~
You were a special man
living a life of
kindness and love.
My heart will always remember
all that you have done.
My treasure chest is sparkling....
not from expensive shiny jewels......
My treasure chest is sparkling with memories!
A treasure chest of memories filled
with so many wonderful loving, happy thoughts
of my childhood and my Dad!
There are no jewels in the world
that can replace these happy memories!
Each year that passes has no change
on any of these memories at all.
The deeper I look into my treasure chest,
I find more memories that were tucked away
just waiting to be found and remembered.
Sometimes, I feel as if it were just yesterday!
I close my eyes and remember when........
My Dad used to love to bring friends
and sometimes strangers, home for a warm meal!
I can remember a few times when he
came home with a few stray dogs for supper!
One of the dogs became our family pet! LOL
He would do this especially in the winter months.
Never wanting to see someone cold and hungry.
He was a very sentimental man!
I guess it went back to his own childhood
and the depression years.
He loved sharing, especially the Holidays with everyone!
Thank goodness my Mom enjoyed all of this!
We kids certainly did!
Dad worked the night shift and by the
time we returned home from school, he was up!
I guess during the school months he did get
his sleep. But now I realize that during the summer,
with the four of us running around,
it must have been awful for him to get a good rest
with the noise my two brothers, my sister and I made.
I can still remember when he would take me
to dancing school. After the class we would stop at
Tom Reilly's Place for a great big iced mug of root beer!
So Good! I would pick one of those lil bags o' pretzels.
It was a special time!
A funny thing happened when he came home with a big
wooden board to practice my tap and ballet lessons on.
I had to slide it under the bed to keep it out of the way.
He never expected to keep hearing me tap, tap away
making a racket through out the entire house. LOL
I was a "Dreamer" as a child also, always making believe
that I was the "Star" in a big NYC Broadway musical.
After months of tap, tappin and very loud music too,
he then suggested that the board be put downstairs
as there was more room for me to dance.
And of course, I could practice anytime
and for as long as I wanted to! LOL
Hmmmm! I wonder if that really was the reason! LOL
I miss you, Dad!

~What Makes A Dad~
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
"Any man can be a Father,
but it takes someone special to be a Dad!"
I cannot think of any need in childhood
as strong as the need for a Father's protection.
It doesn't matter who my Father was;
it matters who I remember he was.
